Once back in New York, Noguchi was introduced to design by what would become a lifelong collaboration creating sets for choreographer Martha Graham. Inspired by Brancusi, Noguchi embraced abstraction and began to sculpt in the expressive, rhythmic style that would be the hallmark of his work. The case itself is 2.5" deep and measures 3.125" from the front of the round control knob to the back of the case. The clock timer stands 6.125" tall and is 5" by 2.5" at the base. The piece retains its metal manufacturer's label on the reverse which reads "MEASURED TIME INC. LA PORTE, INDIANA" printed along the bottom. The center of the clock face is printed with the words "MEASURED TIME" and also has the words "MEASURED TIME INC. The clock timer comes complete with its original fabric wrapped cord and molded round bakelite plug cover. The back of the piece has a notched metal bracket so it can be hung on a wall while the bottom has two molded bar-form feet so it can be displayed on a counter or shelf. The piece is equipped with a large On/Off lever switch at the left and a round control dial at the center. There is a 120 minute timer under a domed plastic cover which is located within an arched opening at the top. The piece features a shiny black bakelite arched case and has a large round clock face with a domed glass cover.
